Day of the Dead
by Marcel Reyes-Cortez
On the 2 of November the people of Mexico celebrate the Day of the Dead.
During the day schools hold special ceremonies and build altars outside
their houses. On the night of 2 of November families go to their local cemetery
to remember their loved ones. They build altars on the tombs of the dead.
On top of the tombs they lay a carpet of flowers and candles. They take
seasonal fruits, cakes and a special bread called Pan de Muerto which families
bake especially for this feast. Families and friends share special drinks
and food during an all night vigil, surrounded by the light of the candles
and the memory of their loved ones.
